The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation is accepting applications for the $10,000 Hogg Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support the continued professional development of swine veterinarians who wish to return to school for graduate study. The scholarship encourages veterinarians to build advanced knowledge that supports the swine industry’s long-term health and production needs.
The scholarship is named after Dr. Alex Hogg, whose professional journey reflects the value of lifelong learning. After working in mixed animal practice for 20 years, he pursued a master’s degree, later becoming a university professor and swine extension veterinarian. He continued growing academically throughout his life, finishing an executive training program at age 75.
To qualify, applicants must have at least three years of practical swine veterinary experience and five consecutive years of membership in the AASV. Candidates must submit a current curriculum vitae, a letter explaining their educational goals and future career intentions in the swine sector, and two recommendation letters from AASV members.
A panel of previous scholarship recipients reviews the applications and selects the next Hogg Scholar. Completed applications must be emailed to foundation@aasv.org by December 1. Recipients will be recognized during the AASV Annual Meeting Luncheon.
This scholarship continues to encourage leadership, advanced study, and commitment to the future of swine health.
