The Covington Farmers Market is back under the sunshine! After spending the winter cozied up inside Braxton Brewing Co., the market returns to a brand-new outdoor location this Saturday, May 4th.
This year, shoppers will find the market nestled in the Covington Motor Vehicle Parking Authority parking lot at 425 Madison Ave. This move offers a more secure environment away from street traffic, according to Kyle Snyder, the Authority's Executive Director.
"We're thrilled to partner with the Center for Great Neighborhoods on the Farmers Market," Snyder said. "The central location and ample parking on Madison Avenue and at the Midtown garage will be a huge convenience for market goers."
Market Manager Rachel Seligman is confident both new and returning customers will appreciate the switch. "The Madison Avenue lot provides a safer space for everyone, while still offering easy parking options," she said. "Our vendors can't wait to reconnect with loyal shoppers and kick off the outdoor season!"
Speaking of vendors, the market welcomes 18 familiar faces alongside four exciting newcomers:
- Rutz Flower Farm: This multi-generational family farm from Walton will bring beautiful, freshly cut blooms each week.
- Creektrace Valley Farm: Located in Alexandria, Creektrace Valley Farm offers eggs, herbs, and seasonal vegetables (available later in the season). They'll be at the market every other Saturday.
- Kentucky Refugee Ministries: This organization runs a community garden and will showcase its produce throughout the summer. Seligman is eager to see the diverse cultural offerings they bring.
- Buttercat Dairy and Biscuits: Based in Newport's KTCHN, Buttercat will tantalize taste buds with their delicious buttermilk biscuits made with cultured butter. Find them every other Saturday.
"In the first few weeks, we'll have a great selection of plants for sale," Seligman added, "perfect for getting your garden growing – think tomatoes, peppers, and chives!"
Market Details:
- Open rain or shine, Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
- Pet-friendly atmosphere.
- Accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, with matching funds available through the Kentucky Double Dollars Program (thanks to a partnership with St. Elizabeth Healthcare).
- Features community outreach booths throughout the season.
The Covington Farmers Market, a staple since 2012, has traditionally hosted over two dozen vendors on Third Street near Court Street. The outdoor market runs from May to November, before transitioning indoors to Braxton Brewing Co. for winter.
