Kentucky Ag internship program welcomes 11 students

Kentucky Ag internship program welcomes 11 students

By Blake Jackson

Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell welcomes 11 college interns to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA).

“KDA’s internship program offers college students an opportunity to work alongside our employees and agriculture community for a unique one-on-one experience,” Commissioner Shell said. “This mentorship program provides a great advantage to those who want to continue in the agriculture field, helping to launch careers in ag-related fields.”

The program provides students with hands-on experience in government through various occupational fields. Majors include agriculture, education, computer science, and more.

Interns gain insight into KDA's programs and consider careers in agriculture. This year's interns participated in livestock shows, conferences, and interviews.

They also helped develop social media promotions, educate the public about farm safety, and work with senior and junior agricultural programs.
