Kentucky Climate Summary - Sep 5 - 11



An active pattern led to multiple rounds of rainfall for a second straight week. Saying that, total accumulations were not as significant compared to the week beforehand.

Overall, the state averaged 0.79 inches, most of which fell on two separate occasions, early in the workweek and late in the weekend. Slow moving storms on Monday and Tuesday dumped 2+ inches on some locations, once again presenting a localized flooding threat. The higher accumulations weren't shared by everyone.

While much of Central Kentucky and points east saw at least a half inch, most of Western Kentucky was well below that threshold. Looking back at the summer as a whole (June-August), the state averaged 15.25 inches, which is about 2 inches above normal and good for #21 on the list of wettest Kentucky summers of all-time (data back to 1895).

Temperatures for the period averaged 72 degrees across the state which was near normal and 4 degrees cooler than the previous period. High temperatures averaged from 83 in the West to 79 in the East. Departure from normal high temperatures ranged from 2 degrees cooler than normal in the West to 4 degrees cooler than normal in the East. Low temperatures averaged from 64 degrees in the West to 64 degrees in the East. Departure from normal low temperature ranged from 2 degrees warmer than normal in the West to 5 degrees warmer than normal in the East. The extreme high temperature for the period was 89 degrees at BOWLING GREEN APT and the extreme low was 52 degrees at CADIZ 4SW.

Precipitation (liq. equ.) for the period totaled 0.79 inches statewide which was 0.01 inches below normal and 99% of normal. Precipitation totals by climate division, West 0.35 inches, Central 0.79 inches, Bluegrass 0.77 inches and East 1.25 inches, which was -0.42, -0.10, 0.03 and 0.45 inches respectively from normal. By station, precipitation totals ranged from a low of 0.01 inches at BENTON 4N to a high of 3.45 inches at WHITLEY CITY 3N.
