Kentucky Turf and Landscape Short Course - Register Now!

By Blake Jackson

Turfgrass professionals and enthusiasts are invited to the 48th Annual Kentucky Turf and Landscape Management Short Course, held February 18-20 at the Hardin County Extension Office in Elizabethtown.

This event, a collaboration between the University of Kentucky’s (UK) Turfgrass Program and the Kentucky Horticulture Council, offers valuable networking opportunities, the latest research findings, and enhanced expertise in turf management.

“The turfgrass industry is full of camaraderie from practitioners to academics,” said Kenneth Clayton, turfgrass extension associate in the UK Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. “I am thankful for colleagues who will be speaking, as well as those traveling in from out of state to share their knowledge. The turfgrass industry is a multibillion-dollar industry and UK has alumni working in it from Florida to Alaska.”

The event begins Tuesday, February 18, with pre-conference pesticide certification training for those preparing for the Kentucky Pesticide Applicator’s Exam. Two days of educational sessions follow, running from 8:50 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

Attendees will learn from UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment faculty and experts from several universities, including the University of Tennessee, Kansas State University, Virginia Tech, and Eastern Kentucky University, as well as industry representatives.

Presentations will cover all aspects of turf management for various settings, from lawns and golf courses to sports fields.

Six Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for each main conference day, with category-specific points in categories 3, 10, and 11, depending on the session.

CEU requests have been submitted to the Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee Departments of Agriculture, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and the Professional Grounds Management Society.

Pesticide exam takers must register separately with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Study materials are available online through the UK Department of Entomology or via local county extension offices.

Early bird registration, priced at $65 per day, is available online until February 14. On-site registration will be $85 per day. Attendees are encouraged to register early to secure the discounted rate and guarantee a spot.
