Kentucky experienced a week of slightly cooler temperatures and above-average rainfall. While this moisture benefited much of the state, drought conditions persist in central and eastern regions.
Temperatures averaged 76 degrees, one degree below normal, while rainfall totaled 1.24 inches, exceeding the normal by 0.18 inches.
Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels improved slightly but remain short in some areas. Farmers were able to work an average of 5.5 days in the fields.
Corn development is progressing well, with 83% of the crop silking and 30% in the dough stage. Soybeans are also ahead of schedule, with 66% blooming and 42% setting pods. However, tobacco farmers face challenges.
Although 44% of the crop is blooming, it's behind the five-year average. Some producers in drought-affected areas have begun harvesting burley tobacco.
Pasture and range conditions have improved due to recent rainfall, but hay supplies remain tight. Many farmers have already fed first-cutting hay, and additional rain is needed to support late cuttings and prevent shortages this winter. Livestock conditions are generally good.
Overall, Kentucky’s agriculture is showing resilience despite weather challenges. Continued monitoring of crop progress and soil moisture is essential for farmers to make informed management decisions.
