Richardson Acquires Pasta Business in U.S. Expansion

By Jamie Martin

Richardson (US) Holdings Limited, part of Richardson International Limited, has signed an agreement with Post Holdings to purchase the pasta business of 8th Avenue Food & Provisions. The acquisition will expand Richardson’s footprint in the U.S. food and ingredients sector.

The transaction covers three major pasta production facilities in Carrington, North Dakota; New Hope, Minnesota; and Winchester, Virginia. It also includes the popular Ronzoni® pasta brand, which is widely recognized in North American households.

“This acquisition represents an exciting new chapter for Richardson,” says Darwin Sobkow, President and CEO of Richardson International. “The handling and milling of durum wheat is a core strength of our business, and the opportunity to extend our reach into pasta builds directly on that foundation. We look forward to welcoming members of the 8th Avenue team as we continue to serve customers across North America.”

Around 500 employees from 8th Avenue will transition to Richardson, boosting its workforce and strengthening its presence in the retail and foodservice pasta markets. The company has indicated that future plans will emphasize product innovation and sustained market growth.

The agreement is pending regulatory approvals, with closing expected later this year. Richardson was advised by BMO Capital Markets and Koley Jessen on financial and legal matters.

With this acquisition, Richardson moves further into consumer-ready foods, deepening its role in connecting North American farmers to consumers through pasta production.
