UK’s FAHA Hosts Inaugural Food as Health Symposium

By Blake Jackson

The University of Kentucky's Food as Health Alliance (FAHA) will host its inaugural Food as Health Symposium on March 11th at Kroger Field's Longship Club.

This free, one-day event will bring together experts from agriculture, healthcare, nutrition, and other related fields to explore solutions for food insecurity and diet-sensitive ailments.

The symposium will delve into the differences between food and nutrition security and identify research gaps that, once addressed, could significantly benefit communities.

Participants will explore innovative approaches to connect food and healthcare, aiming to combat chronic diseases.

“Food and nutrition security, along with high rates of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers, continue to impact residents of Kentucky,” said Alison Gustafson, professor in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition and FAHA program director.

“Addressing the complex needs of healthy food while targeting chronic disease requires innovative solutions that connect food and healthcare. The Food as Health Alliance is bringing together leading experts from across the country for this symposium on Food is Medicine.”

The event is open to the public and includes lunch. Interested individuals can register online.

This symposium offers a valuable opportunity to learn from leading experts and contribute to the conversation surrounding food as medicine and its potential to improve community health.
