The 2025 University of Kentucky Small Grain Variety Trial results are now available online at https://varietytesting.ca.uky.edu/wheat. A total of 70 entries were evaluated during the 2024–2025 growing season.
The data covers performance results for multiple small grain crops, including wheat, barley, cereal rye, oats, and triticale. For wheat, the trials include grain yield results from seven locations, along with data on straw and forage yields and the crop’s potential for use as a cover crop or for winter biomass production.
Additionally, wheat varieties were assessed for disease resistance, with ratings for leaf rust, head scab, leaf blotch, wheat streak mosaic virus, and powdery mildew. Varieties were also evaluated for their tolerance to Metribuzin, a commonly used herbicide.
While the complete dataset is currently available in Excel format, a detailed Kentucky Small Grain Variety Performance bulletin will be released soon. Printed versions will also be distributed through county extension offices across the state.
For growers, researchers, and agronomists, this information offers valuable insights to guide seed selection and crop management. For further details, contact Bill Bruening at bruening@uky.edu.
