The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) has issued a Secretarial natural disaster designation for Kentucky, making producers eligible for emergency credit to help recover from the damage caused by severe drought and excessive heat.
This designation allows farmers to apply for emergency loans, which can be used for a variety of recovery needs, such as replacing essential equipment or livestock, reorganising their operations, or refinancing certain debts.
FSA reviews loan applications based on the extent of losses, available security, and the producer’s ability to repay. Farmers in Kentucky, including those in the contiguous counties of Harlan, Letcher, and Pike, are eligible to apply for this assistance. The deadline for loan applications is July 15, 2025.
Producers can access useful resources on farmers.gov, including the Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool, the Disaster Assistance-at-a-Glance fact sheet, and the Loan Assistance Tool, which will help them identify available programs and loan options.
For further assistance, including filing a Notice of Loss or asking questions about the programs, farmers should contact their local USDA Service Center.
