Kentucky’s corn production for 2024 is anticipated to reach 230 million bushels, reflecting an 18% decrease from 2023. The estimated yield per acre has declined by 7 bushels from last year to 180 bushels per acre.
The area designated for grain harvest is also down, with 1.28 million acres projected 220,000 acres fewer than in 2023.
On a national scale, the U.S. corn production forecast stands at 15.1 billion bushels, a slight decrease from October’s estimate and 1% lower than last year.
As of November 1, U.S. yields are expected to average 183.1 bushels per acre, marking a 5.8-bushel increase over 2023’s figures. However, the grain harvest area is estimated at 82.7 million acres, a 4% reduction from the previous year.
In Kentucky, soybean production is forecasted at 97.9 million bushels, which is about 2% lower than last year’s output. The yield is estimated at 48 bushels per acre, 7 bushels fewer than in 2023. Interestingly, the harvested area for soybeans has increased to 2.04 million acres, up by 220,000 acres compared to the previous year.
Nationally, soybean production is forecasted to grow, reaching an estimated 4.46 billion bushels up by 7% from 2023. U.S. yields are projected to average 51.7 bushels per acre, a 1.1-bushel increase over last year, with a harvest area of 86.3 million acres, representing a 5% rise from 2023.
