The University of Kentucky is hosting the 2024 Spring Kentucky Beginning Grazing School, designed to equip livestock producers with the knowledge and skills to build profitable grazing management plans.

This two-day program, held in Princeton, Kentucky on April 30th and May 1st, combines classroom instruction with hands-on activities at a local farm. Participants will learn about:

  • Soil health and pasture management
  • Rotational grazing techniques
  • Nutritional needs of livestock on pasture
  • Setting up paddocks and electric fencing
  • Forage plant selection

The second day focuses on:

  • Different types of fencing and their costs
  • Designing grazing systems
  • Restoring rundown pastures
  • Seeding techniques using a grain drill and GPS unit

Registration is open until April 28th. The cost is $60 per person and workshops run from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm each day. This program is a valuable opportunity for livestock producers to gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a competitive market.
