Kentucky crop forecasts for 2024

Kentucky crop forecasts for 2024

By Blake Jackson

Kentucky's crop production for 2024 is expected to see mixed results compared to the previous year. Corn production is forecast to decline by 15% to 239 million bushels, while soybean production is projected to increase by 6% to 106 million bushels.

Burley tobacco production is expected to decrease by 12% to 50.0 million pounds, and dark fire-cured and dark air-cured tobacco production are forecast to decline by 31% and 5%, respectively.

The decline in corn production is primarily due to a decrease in harvested acreage, which is estimated to be 220,000 acres lower than in 2023. However, corn yield is expected to remain unchanged at 187 bushels per acre.

Soybean production is expected to increase due to a combination of increased harvested acreage and higher yield.

Harvested acreage is projected to be 220,000 acres higher than in 2023, and yield is expected to increase by 3.0 bushels per acre.

Burley tobacco production is expected to decline due to both lower harvested acreage and lower yield.

Harvested acreage is projected to be 2,000 acres lower than in 2023, and yield is expected to decline by 100 pounds per acre.

Kentucky crop production in 2024 is expected to be mixed. While soybean production is expected to increase, corn and tobacco production are expected to decline.
