Kentucky farmhand heads Ag policy - Reed leads KOAP

By Blake Jackson

Hodgenville farmer and former state representative Brandon Reed has traded legislative halls for pastures, taking on the role of Executive Director at the Kentucky Office of Agricultural Policy (KOAP). Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell announced the appointment, praising Reed's experience and dedication to the agricultural community.

"Brandon embodies the spirit of KOAP," said Commissioner Shell. "His passion for agriculture, combined with his leadership experience, make him the perfect fit to guide the office and the future of Kentucky farming."

Reed, an ordained minister with a deep understanding of rural life, expressed his excitement about the new role. "I'm honored to join Commissioner Shell and build upon KOAP's legacy of supporting farmers who feed our nation," he stated. "Together, we'll explore ways to diversify operations and ensure a bright future for Kentucky agriculture."

Reed's career highlights a commitment to rural communities. As a State Representative, he championed vital initiatives like rural broadband expansion, economic development, and mental health support for farmers. His legislative expertise will prove invaluable as he leads KOAP's efforts to distribute funds from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, providing grants, loans, and incentives to drive innovation and growth within Kentucky's agribusinesses.

A fifth-generation farmhand, Reed brings hands-on experience to the table. He co-manages his family's LaRue County cattle farm, understanding the challenges and opportunities facing Kentucky farmers firsthand. This dual perspective, rooted in both policy and practice, promises to guide KOAP in effectively supporting the state's agricultural backbone.

Brandon Reed's transition from lawmaker to agricultural leader underscores his unwavering commitment to Kentucky's rural communities. With his passion, experience, and deep understanding of the land, he stands poised to guide KOAP and Kentucky agriculture towards a prosperous future.
