Kentucky sweeps awards at national forage meeting

Kentucky's dedication to the forage industry shone brightly at the recent American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC) annual meetings in Mobile, Alabama. Several individuals and organizations from the state received prestigious awards, highlighting their valuable contributions.

  • Matthew Isaacs, a producer from Hart County, impressed the judges to win the coveted National Forage Spokesperson Contest, showcasing his deep knowledge and passion for the industry.
  • The Kentucky Forage and Grassland Council (KFGC) stood out as the nation's leading affiliate forage council for 2023, demonstrating its exceptional work in supporting and promoting the advancement of forage production in the state.
  • Brandon Sears, an esteemed ANR agent in Madison County, received the AFGC Merit Award in recognition of his outstanding efforts and dedication to the field.
  • The University of Kentucky's faculty further brought pride to the state with two significant awards. Dr. Jimmy Henning was honored with the Distinguished Grasslander Award, a prestigious recognition of his lifetime achievements in forage research and education. Dr. Ray Smith received the Allen Illumination Award, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to forage extension and outreach programs.
  • Jesse Morrison, a former UK graduate student who now holds an associate professorship at Mississippi State University, was also presented with an AFGC Merit Award, showcasing the lasting impact of Kentucky's educational programs on the industry.
