Spring has sprung at Morehead State University, and the campus is abuzz with activity – not just from students, but from thriving plants! The university's horticulture program boasts a bustling greenhouse where students get hands-on experience in cultivating a vibrant array of flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
From meticulously preparing nutrient-rich soil to meticulously weeding each plant, the entire process is a labor of love for these green-thumbed students. They take pride in understanding the specific needs of each variety, ensuring each plant thrives under their care.
The greenhouse isn't just a learning space; it's a hub for the campus community. Sophomore Jayme Parks, an agriculture education major living on the university farm, sees this program as a stepping stone to her future career. "Horticulture is a crucial part of my goal to teach others about agriculture," she beams.
Senior Owen Day, who has spent two years nurturing plant life in the greenhouse, emphasizes the program's impact beyond campus walls. "This plant sale is a major way we connect with the local community," he explains. "People come from all over seeking advice and guidance for their own gardens."
With April marking their peak season, the students eagerly anticipate seeing their meticulously cared-for plants burst into full bloom, not just in the greenhouse, but in local homes throughout the community.
