Record Performances Shine in NCGA 2025 Yield Contest

By Jamie Martin

The National Corn Growers Association has released the results of the 2025 Yield Contest, celebrating strong performance by corn farmers nationwide. Supported by favorable growing conditions, participants produced high yields that contributed to expectations of a record corn crop.

The contest marked its 61st year with nearly 7,800 entries from growers in 47 states. Farmers competed in 10 production categories, achieving an average verified yield of 269 bushels per acre. These results highlight ongoing improvements in corn genetics, field management, and production strategies.

One of the most notable achievements came from Virginia. David Hula of Charles City recorded the highest yield of the contest at 572.2589 bushels per acre in the Class H strip-till irrigated category. This performance reflects the effective use of modern farming practices and careful resource management.

"The Yield Contest is really about finding out what this crop is capable of,” said Jed Bower, Ohio grower and NCGA President. “And as corn farmers, we get to show what we’re made of, too. It challenges participants to find innovative ways to succeed and contribute to decades of agronomic data that prove that American farmers are great at what we do.”

A total of 30 national winners and 567 state winners were named in 2025. These farmers represent the dedication and problem-solving skills needed to succeed in modern agriculture. Their accomplishments help demonstrate how U.S. farmers continue to adapt to changing conditions while increasing efficiency and productivity.

The winners will be honored at Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas, from February 25 to 27, 2026. Full details and the complete list of winners are available on the NCGA website, offering insight into the practices driving success in today’s corn production industry.
