May 24 Webinar: Managing Cockroaches, Rodents and Fleas

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting a free webinar for credit covering three of the most notorious household pests -- cockroaches, rodents, and fleas. This webinar will be offered on May 24 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. ET.

Each of the three presentations will be followed by a 10-minute live question and answer session, providing participants with the opportunity to engage with experts on the latest management tactics. The full schedule is below.

Participants will gain an excellent foundation on the integrated pest management (IPM)-based practices for each of these pests, explains Ric Bessin, Kentucky Extension entomologist, adding that people need to preregister for this webinar and can do so at

Attendees can earn continuing education credits from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for participation in this webinar.

1-2:10 p.m.: Rodents -- Prevention and Control will focus on rodent prevention, monitoring and management using IPM practices.

2:10-3:20 p.m.: Cockroach Allergens, Baits and the Sweet Science of Glucose Aversion will examine cockroach allergens, glucose aversion, and insecticide resistance. The most effective IPM-based tactics for controlling cockroaches in homes, schools and other structures will be discussed.

3:20-4:30 p.m.: Fleas -- Pet Annoyance and Public Health Threat will address health risks posed by fleas. Presenters will explain how to identify, monitor and manage fleas using an IPM approach.
