JLG Expands with Farm Ready Telehandlers

JLG Expands with Farm Ready Telehandlers

By Jamie Martin

JLG Industries has returned to agriculture by introducing telehandlers designed especially for farmers. While the company is widely known for construction and lifting equipment, its roots are deeply connected to farming.

Founder John L. Grove grew up on a Pennsylvania farm. After returning from World War II, he and his brother began building wagons for local farmers. These wagons helped farmers transport crops and materials more easily. When production needs increased, Grove created a hydraulic crane to move heavy parts, which later became the foundation for JLG’s lifting technology.

Over time, JLG became a global leader in access equipment. However, many farmers continued to use industrial telehandlers for farm jobs. These machines were powerful, but not always comfortable or suitable for dusty, muddy and uneven farm environments.

JLG engineers listened to farmer feedback and identified the need for equipment made specifically for agriculture. Working with dealers and producers, the company developed a new line of agricultural telehandlers built to meet farm demands.

“We knew there was a gap in the market,” said Bob Nelson, Vice President and General Manager, JLG Agriculture. “Farmers were making do with what they had, but they needed equipment that was built for them — not adapted from another industry.”

These telehandlers provide strong lifting power to handle hay bales, feed, manure and bulk materials. They offer better reach and height, allowing farmers to load and stack materials more easily. Improved maneuverability helps operators move safely in barns, yards and storage areas.

Comfort was also a key focus. The machines include ergonomic operator stations that reduce tiredness during long workdays. Versatile attachment options allow farmers to use the same machine for feeding, cleaning, lifting and transporting materials year-round.

To support these machines, JLG created a dedicated agricultural dealer network. Dealers offer financing, service programs and reliable parts availability. This support ensures farmers can keep their operations running smoothly during busy seasons.

“Our dealer partnerships are key,” said Nelson. “It’s not just about the machine — it’s about the relationship. Farmers need to know we’ll be there when they need us.”

By returning to agriculture, JLG honors its history while helping modern farms improve efficiency and safety. Its agriculture telehandlers deliver dependable solutions that help farmers complete daily tasks faster, smarter and with confidence.
