Kentucky unveils new agricultural leaders

By Blake Jackson

The Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program (KALP), hosted by the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture, has officially announced its 14th class, following a record-breaking 140 nominations. This prestigious program aims to equip young farmers and agriculture professionals with crucial leadership skills to drive innovation and success in the state's agricultural and rural communities.

With a curriculum that covers communication, conflict management, ethical decision-making, and more, the selected 22 candidates are set to embark on a comprehensive two-year journey. This journey includes local engagements, visits to Kentucky agribusinesses, meetings with policymakers in Frankfort and Washington, D.C., and international travel to observe global agricultural practices.

The diverse group of Class 14 members, ranging from farm owners to agribusiness directors and educators, reflects the program's commitment to fostering a wide range of talents within Kentucky's agricultural sector. Over the years, KALP has graduated over 300 alumni, who attribute their professional growth to the program's emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and leadership development.

Laney Snider, a Class 13 graduate, praised KALP for its beyond-expectations impact, highlighting the program's success in nurturing a community of forward-thinking agricultural leaders. As Class 14 begins its journey, the future of Kentucky's agriculture looks promising, thanks to KALP's dedication to cultivating the next generation of industry leaders.
