Mike Spier appointed new CEO of US wheat associates

By Jamie Martin

Mike Spier, currently Vice President of Overseas Operations at US Wheat Associates (USW), has been elected to take over as President and CEO effective July 1, 2025. Spier's election follows the retirement announcement of Vince Peterson, the organization's long-serving leader.

Spier expressed his gratitude and readiness to lead, emphasizing the solid foundation set by his predecessor. "I am deeply honored and humbled to be elected to this position and grateful to our officers and directors for their trust and confidence," Spier said. His vision includes continuing to innovate and expand export opportunities to ensure profitability for US wheat growers and deliver value overseas.

Having started his career in grain merchandising, Spier brings extensive experience in international wheat trading and market development. His career includes significant roles across the globe, from Cairo to Manila, showcasing his ability to manage complex international operations.

The role of USW President involves overseeing the organization's policies, staff, and financial strategies. Spier's leadership is expected to leverage the strong financial footing and industry partnerships fostered by Peterson.

Peterson praised Spier's qualifications, noting his respect within the industry and confidence in Spier's ability to navigate the future challenges of the wheat market.

USW continues its mission to develop and expand international markets, enhancing the profitability and value of US wheat, supported by state wheat commissions and USDA funding.
