Shovels, skillets, and saws... oh my! Appalachian Quintessence: Traditional Appalachian Art by Terry Burchett is coming soon to The McCall Art Gallery on the campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC). Burchett’s exhibit includes paintings on traditional canvases as well as many other objects.
Burchett is a painter and sketch artist who was born and has spent his life in Lawrence County and attributes eastern Kentucky as one of his greatest influences. For as long as he can remember, he has had a brush in hand and was always encouraged by this mother to paint.
“I have become fascinated over the years with the many different styles and forms of art and subject matter. I have used several of these myself, but my medium of choice is acrylic. I use my art and time in front of a canvas to lose myself from anxiety and stress. Canvases do not judge, and I am free to see the world.” said Burchett.
Burchett’s images are glimpses into life in the hills: simple, rich, and beautiful. With his art, he invites viewers to look in, remember times and enjoy.
Appalachian Quintessence opens at the McCall Art Gallery on Jan. 25 with a reception beginning at 3 p.m.
