U.S. Red Meat Showcase Drives Global Trade

U.S. Red Meat Showcase Drives Global Trade

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) successfully held its 13th Latin American Product Showcase on July 30–31 in Guatemala City. The event brought together over 500 participants, including buyers from 18 nations and more than 80 U.S. exporters showcasing beef and pork products.

Funded through USDA and partner organizations, the showcase has become a vital platform for expanding agricultural markets. USMEF Chair Steve Hanson highlighted the importance of the event, noting that international buyers seek a wide range of cuts, from premium beef to products less popular in the U.S., adding significant value for American farmers.

Producers like Iowa’s Kevin Rasmussen emphasized the strong demand for pork loins in Central America, while Colombian businesses explored opportunities in ribs and variety meats. Alejandro Martinez, a returning importer from Colombia, praised the showcase for its networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

Participants also joined retail tours in Guatemala City, learning how U.S. red meat is marketed at different levels—from traditional wet markets to premium outlets. Nebraska cattleman Mark Goes observed that U.S. Prime and Choice beef enjoy strong demand in higher-end markets, while pork remains competitive across all retail levels.

The event also included educational sessions. Experts shared updates on U.S. red meat production and trade, regional economic outlooks, and the role of artificial intelligence in agribusiness.

With each edition, the Latin American Product Showcase strengthens trade ties and creates new opportunities for U.S. agriculture. The next showcase is scheduled for the summer of 2027, with details to be announced.
