USDA Strengthens Efforts Against Avian Flu Threat

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins recently visited Texas to address concerns about highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and its impact on the poultry industry. Her trip included a tour of a Cal-Maine Foods egg-laying facility in Bogata, Texas, followed by a farmer roundtable in Mount Pleasant.

After the facility tour, Secretary Rollins led a roundtable in Mount Pleasant with poultry farmers, veterinarians, and industry leaders. The discussion focused on disease mitigation efforts, USDA support programs, and strategies to stabilize egg prices.

“It’s great to be back in Texas and see firsthand the incredible work farmers are doing to protect their flocks,” said Secretary Rollins. “The Biden administration failed to lead on avian flu, and families across America are paying the price. President Trump understands the importance of addressing this issue head on, and USDA is taking action to support farmers, strengthen supply chains, and bring egg prices down.”

Participants in the roundtable shared concerns about ongoing avian flu outbreaks and called for continued USDA assistance in safeguarding poultry farms. Secretary Rollins reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing resources and enhancing disease control strategies.

Following the discussion, Secretary Rollins spoke with local media, reinforcing USDA’s efforts to combat avian flu and support farmers. The agency plans to continue working with industry stakeholders to improve biosecurity and ensure a stable food supply.
