Join Swine Industry Experts at ISU Conference

By Jamie Martin

The 2025 ISU McKean Swine Disease Conference is expanding with two valuable preconference workshops focused on Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae eradication and PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome) management. These workshops are free to all main conference registrants, courtesy of generous sponsors.

The preconference workshops will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, Iowa. The morning session, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, will cover Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae eradication, co-sponsored by Zoetis and the fieldepi group.

In the afternoon, from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM, the focus shifts to PRRS management, supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.

These sessions will feature global swine health experts sharing strategies for disease control and eradication in commercial production, along with updates on cutting-edge research and industry tools. A social dinner will follow the workshops.

The main conference will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. This event will bring together both international and national leaders in the swine industry.

Topics include sustainable veterinary practices, updates on the US Swine Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), European strategies for PRRS reduction, and the economic outlook for the swine sector.

The afternoon will feature two parallel tracks focusing on critical health concerns such as E. coli virulence, PRRSV variability in live virus inoculation materials, sow mortality, groundwater pathogens, H5N1, and the National Swine Health Strategy.

Practitioner-led case studies will explore real-world applications of technology in biosecurity, diagnostics at the enterprise level, and control strategies for pathogens like K88 E. coli, Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV), and PCV3. Emerging challenges in Spain will also be addressed.

Attendees are invited to join the ISU Swine Networking Social hosted by Iowa Swine Day on the evening of June 25 at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center.

Iowa Swine Day will follow on Thursday, June 26, offering another opportunity for in-depth learning in Ames.
