The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program is back, and it's time to unleash your creativity for a tastier, more competitive future!
"Our specialty crops are a delicious engine for Kentucky's agriculture," says Commissioner Shell. "This program is all about fueling their growth, both at home and abroad. We can't wait to see the innovative ideas that blossom from this application process."
Whether you're dreaming of juicier berries, crisper lettuce, or the next big honeybee haven, this grant program is your chance to make it happen. Projects must demonstrate clear benefits for both the industry and the public, with measurable outcomes to show for it.
Who can apply? Private companies, 501(c)(3) non-profits, and public universities can join the fun (if their projects aren't just profit-driven). Remember, all proposals are subject to funding availability, so make sure your ideas are ripe for the picking!
Preliminary proposals must be submitted on the form located at https://www.kyagr.com/marketing/documents/Grants_Specialty_Crop_Block_Concept_Proposal.pdf and emailed to Brett McQueary at Brett.McQueary@ky.gov no later than 4:30 p.m. EST on Feb. 23, 2024. For a comprehensive list, interested parties may visit www.ams.usda.gov/services/grants/scbgp/specialty-crop.
This isn't just about sweet treats and crunchy veggies, though. Specialty crops encompass a whole orchard of possibilities, from juicy fruits and vibrant vegetables to nutty delights and vibrant flowers. So, if you've got a passion for growing something special, this is your chance to blossom!
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture, fueled by grant funding from the USDA, is eager to see your proposals bloom. Get your creative juices flowing, apply by the deadline, and watch your project take root in fertile ground!
