Kentucky beef producers - free BQCA training in September

Kentucky beef producers - free BQCA training in September

By Blake Jackson

The Kentucky Beef Network and the University of Kentucky Extension are excited to offer free Beef Quality and Care Assurance (BQCA) certifications this September, with enrollment costs fully sponsored.

This initiative aims to educate and certify beef and dairy producers on the best practices for handling cattle, ensuring both the welfare of the animals and the safety of the farmers.

The BQCA program builds upon the national Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) standards, adding comprehensive components focused on cattle handling and animal care, tailored specifically for Kentucky producers.

These educational modules cover essential management practices that not only prioritize the well-being of the cattle but also enhance the quality and marketability of beef products.

By participating in this program, producers can strengthen consumer confidence in Kentucky beef, ensuring a continued supply of healthy products.

In Clay County, a free certification session will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Clay County Extension Office, located at 69 Jameson Road, Manchester, KY.

This certification is particularly important for those applying for the County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) funding, as BQCA certification is a requirement.

Interested participants are encouraged to sign up by calling the Clay County Extension Office at 606-598-2789. This certification provides an excellent opportunity for producers to enhance their skills and contribute to the quality and safety of Kentucky’s beef industry.
