Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) is pleased to reveal the 2023 finalists for the Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture contest Caleb Smithson from Butler County is one of them.
This competition provides young farmers an opportunity for recognition while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in both Farm Bureau and agriculture. The contest is tailored for those who play a role in agriculture alongside other full-time occupations. Applicants showcased their commitment to farming, agricultural education, extension services, and the broader agriculture industry. The judging criteria encompassed their agricultural contributions, leadership skills, and engagement in Farm Bureau and other community-oriented organizations.
KFB President Mark Haney expressed pride in these young individuals, commending their hard work, growth, and dedication to Farm Bureau and agriculture. He acknowledged the demanding nature of the industry and appreciated the finalists' community service.
Each year, KFB awards the Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture honor, championed by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation (KFBF) Young Farmer Committee. This award is granted to individuals under 35 years old who demonstrate leadership growth through consistent involvement in Farm Bureau and other agriculture and community-oriented organizations. Eligibility for this award requires that contestants do not rely mostly on farming income subjected to normal production risks.
Smithson was one of the three finalists. The other finalists are Matthew Chadwick from Calloway County and Courtney Jenkins from Morgan County.
