Kentucky Farm Bureau Charity Breakfast Unites Leaders

Kentucky Farm Bureau Charity Breakfast Unites Leaders

The Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast is a Kentucky State Fair tradition that brings political rivals together. This year, the event raised a record $10 million for charity.

The winning bid for the Grand Champion Country Ham was made by coal executive Joe Craft and his wife, former United Nations Ambassador Kelly Craft. The funds will support various needs across Kentucky, including building 57 new homes in Knott County for families affected by 2022 floods.

Incumbent Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear spoke at the breakfast, emphasizing his focus on economic and infrastructure development. He also renewed his call for unity.

At a table nearby, Republican gubernatorial candidate Attorney General Daniel Cameron listened but did not address the crowd. Afterwards, he criticized Beshear for his policies on crime, education, and workforce development.

Both of Kentucky's United States senators, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Rand Paul, also spoke at the breakfast. McConnell blamed federal spending to boost the economy during the coronavirus pandemic for inflation. Paul spoke about the importance of faith, family, and freedom in making America great again.

Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also spoke at the breakfast. Quarles thanked lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for working with the city of Louisville, and Greenberg expressed hope for continued cooperation between Louisville and the state of Kentucky.

The Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast is a reminder that even political rivals can come together for a good cause. The event raised a record amount of money for charity, and it helped to foster a spirit of unity among Kentucky's leaders.
