Kentucky KADB approves $2.2M for agricultural diversification


The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board (KADB) approved $2.2 million in funding for agricultural diversification and rural development projects at its monthly board meeting.

The funding will support a variety of projects, including:

YAIP: The Youth Agricultural Incentives Program (YAIP) provides funding to Kentucky counties to support youth agricultural education and engagement. Five counties were awarded YAIP funding: Bourbon, Estill, Nicholas, Oldham, and Spencer.

County- and State-Funded Projects: The KADB also approved funding for several county- and state-funded projects, including:

LFAVIP: The Large & Food Animal Veterinary Incentives Program (LFAVIP) provides $27,072 funding to Kentucky veterinarians to help them purchase equipment and training to care for large and food animals.

Fayette County Farm Bureau Federation: The Fayette County Farm Bureau Federation was awarded $2,500 funding to purchase a grain rescue extraction kit.

Hart County Fair Association: The Hart County Fair Association was awarded $20,695 funding to build an addition to its Agriculture Center Building.

Marshall County Extension Office: The Marshall County Extension Office was awarded $184,500 funding to construct a farmers' market permanent structure.

Pennyroyal Farm Analysis Group, Inc.: Pennyroyal Farm Analysis Group, Inc. was awarded $41,000 funding to support a feasibility study to evaluate the future opportunities that the Kentucky Farm Business Management (KFBM) program can provide to producers.

County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP): The County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) provides cost-share assistance to Kentucky agricultural producers to help them improve and diversify their operations. Eleven CAIPs were approved by the KADB totaling $1.8 million.

4. Crittenden: $45,557

5. Gallatin: $80,000* 6. McCreary: $29,011

7. Metcalfe: $262,256

8. Oldham: $50,082 9. Rockcastle: $250,460

10. Scott: $305,000

11. Shelby: $316,000

Deceased Farm Animal Removal (DAR): The Deceased Farm Animal Removal (DAR) Program provides funding to Kentucky producers to help them dispose of deceased livestock in an environmentally sound and cost-effective manner. Two DAR programs were approved by the KADB totaling $17,500.

Next Generation Farmer Program (NextGen): The Next Generation Farmer Program (NextGen) provides funding to Kentucky producers who are 18 to 40 years old and have been engaged in an agricultural operation for a minimum of three years. One NextGen program was approved by the KADB totaling $25,000. The KADB is committed to supporting agricultural diversification and rural development in Kentucky. This funding will help to ensure that Kentucky's agricultural producers have the resources they need to succeed.
