Award-Winning Kentucky Ag Matters Agriculture Podcast
Kentucky Ag Connection - 09/18/2023

The KY Ag Matters podcast, hosted by University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension agents for agriculture and natural resources in Webster, Hopkins, and McLean Counties, has been named the 2023 winner in the audio recordings category by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.

The podcast educates and informs listeners about all aspects of agriculture, with topics ranging from cover crops and tillage practices to efficient beef production and fall soil fertility. Podcast guests include UK Cooperative Extension specialists, commodity group leaders, extension agents, and law enforcement officers.

"Over the past three years, we have all learned to connect with people," said Vikki Shadrick, Webster County extension agent. "Even during a global pandemic, businesses found ways to continue to meet the needs of their clientele and families found ways to stay connected without gathering in person. Stepping out of our comfort zones to learn new skills quickly became the new normal."

Jay Stone, Hopkins County extension agent, said the team is still prioritizing and learning the best ways to communicate with clientele.

The podcast allows us to reach a broader audience than just our traditional extension clientele because it can be accessed anywhere at any time.

David Fourqurean, McLean County extension agent, said the podcast allows them to offer a weekly educational opportunity for their listeners.

"It is another resource producers have to help them make informed decisions," he said.
