E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park will host a special insect presentation and identification workshop, “The World Under Your Feet,” on March 7.
Led by Jackson Schleff, a junior in the University of Louisville’s Biology Department, the event will cover the basic anatomy of insects, arachnids and other invertebrates that form a foundation to the park’s ecology. Schleff will discuss how these creatures support a food web of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
A showcase of preserved insect collections reflecting the biodiversity of the park will be available for viewing. The Tom Sawyer State Park Foundation will also be present, serving refreshments and accepting donations for future park projects and programs.
The presentation will take place 6:30-8 p.m. at the Sawyer-Hayes Community Center. Admission is free and pre-registration is required. To register, call 502-429-7270 or email Andrew.Spence@ky.gov.
