A beacon of hope is reaching families in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, still recovering from the devastating December 2021 tornadoes. The Kentucky Dream Center, partnering with Mercy Chefs and several other organizations, is hosting a food distribution event on March 27th.
"Recovering from such disasters takes time," acknowledged Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell. "These families and businesses are still rebuilding. A simple box of groceries can offer much-needed support and hope during this challenging time."
Mercy Chefs, a disaster relief group specializing in food distribution, is spearheading the initiative through their "Send Hope Home" program. Their collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) will provide 500 boxes filled with locally sourced goods like chicken, eggs, fresh produce, and pantry staples.
"We are incredibly thankful for our partners and volunteers who make these events possible," said Kentucky Dream Center's Executive Director, Christina Garrott. "It's an honor to support our neighbors and remind them they are not alone in their recovery journey."
This marks the second food distribution event coordinated by the Kentucky Dream Center for the tornado-impacted community. The drive-thru style event will be held on March 27th from 5-7 pm at Dawson Springs School (317 Eli St., Dawson Springs, KY). Everyone in the community is welcome to attend and receive a box filled with essential food items and recipes.
