As Glean Kentucky reflect on 2024, Glean Kentucky is filled with pride for the progress that made in rescuing food from local grocers and farms to distribute to those in need across the Commonwealth.
The unwavering support from its staff, volunteers, and donors has made this year extraordinary, and Glean Kentucky look forward to sharing the full details of its accomplishments in the new year.
However, as Glean Kentucky moves into 2025, an important change is coming to Glean Kentucky. After thorough evaluation and careful consideration, the Board has made the difficult decision to discontinue operations in South Central Kentucky, effective December 31, 2024.
While Glean Kentucky will continue its work in Central and North Central Kentucky, the logistics and costs associated with sustaining the South Central program had become unsustainable.
This decision does not reflect any shortcomings in the Bowling Green area or the invaluable partnerships built there. Glean Kentucky says it is simply a matter of timing and resources.
The support Glean Kentucky received from donors, volunteers, and community partners has been essential to its efforts, and Glean Kentucky is deeply grateful for it.
Over the past four years, Glean Kentucky rescued more than 210,000 pounds of fresh produce and connected it to 12 feeding programs in the Bowling Green region.
Glean Kentucky take great pride in these achievements and are thankful to everyone who contributed to this success.
While it’s difficult to close this chapter, Glean Kentucky are confident that this decision will position for a stronger future. With new Executive Director, Jennifer Palmer, leading the way and a renewed focus on its mission, Glean Kentucky remain dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting hunger in Kentucky throughout 2025 and beyond. Glean Kentucky is excited for the future and deeply appreciative of the continued support from the community.
