Kentucky farm manager returns to college for sustainable ag

By Blake Jackson

Michael Moore, a native of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, has returned to college to pursue a bachelor's degree in sustainable agriculture. Moore has been working as a farm manager at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill since 2014, and he has nearly a decade of experience in diversified, sustainable, and regenerative agriculture.

Moore says that he was inspired to return to college by his love of the land and his desire to continue learning. He is also passionate about growing and improving land, and he believes that sustainable agriculture is the best way to do that.

At UK, Moore is taking courses in a variety of subjects, including non-profit work, sustainability agriculture policy, solar grazing, and nutrition. He is also interested in returning to the classroom to teach one day.

Moore says that he is ready to overcome any challenges that he faces along the way, and he is determined to make his family proud. He plans to continue working full-time while enrolled in classes, and he is slated to graduate in 2025. Afterward, he plans to pursue graduate school and to eventually manage his own farm.

Moore's story is an inspiration to others who are considering returning to college. He shows that it is possible to pursue your dreams, regardless of your age or background.
