Kentucky has launched a new organization called Bluegrass AgTech Development Corporation, which will focus on attracting and supporting agtech startups and businesses to the state. The organization is a partnership between the City of Lexington, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and Alltech.
Bob Helton, a veteran business development and economic development leader, has been named the executive director of Bluegrass AgTech. Helton has over four decades of experience, including a background in agriculture.
Bluegrass AgTech will provide agtech innovators with access to funding, resources, and support to help them grow their businesses in Kentucky. The organization will also launch a challenge grant program to attract agtech and food-based businesses to the state.
The launch event for Bluegrass AgTech will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 1 p.m. at Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.
