Rollins Boosts USDA Farm Security Measures

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins is continuing her mission to protect the nation’s food system through expanded measures under the National Farm Security Action Plan. These steps follow her initial announcement to defend American farmland and supply chains.

A searchable foreign farmland ownership map is now available, showing land held by foreign countries across U.S. counties. USDA plans to improve the data to make it more current and precise.

The Department also introduced a web-based portal to report potential foreign influence in U.S. agricultural business or land purchases. The platform encourages transparency, accepting anonymous submissions to alert the USDA of adversarial activity.

Secretary Rollins also signed an agreement with the U.S. Treasury that gives USDA an official role in the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS). This ensures that agriculture has representation in decisions involving land, transport, processing, and biotechnologies tied to national security.

In another move, Rollins ordered USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service to work with states to prevent illegal access to SNAP benefits. States must begin sharing participant data with USDA by July 23, 2025, for real-time fraud detection.

“Gone are the days of foreign adversaries taking advantage of our farmland, farmers, and programs paid for by American taxpayers,” said Secretary Rollins. “Our work is far from done.”

These actions highlight a strong push to protect U.S. farms, strengthen oversight of foreign involvement, and defend the nation’s agriculture from misuse or security threats.
