The University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (CAFE) recently hosted the third annual "Ag is For All" event.
This initiative aims to connect high school students from underrepresented groups with the college and inspire them to pursue careers in agriculture.
The day-long event featured a variety of activities, including campus tours, academic workshops, and opportunities to interact with current students and faculty.
The goal is to demystify the college experience and encourage students to consider UK as their next step.
“‘Ag is For All’ is designed to help high school students from underrepresented groups learn about the college experience and academic programs,” said Kendriana Price, Ed.D., assistant dean for community relations and engagement. “The conference aims to build better relationships between students and the UK community, leaving attendees more informed and inspired about their college options.”
Student volunteers, like Jaida Alee, a senior studying equine science and management, played a vital role in the event's success. "My favorite part of the conference is connecting with students and making them feel welcomed," Alee said. "I enjoyed answering all their questions and giving insight about my experiences with Martin-Gatton CAFE.”
The "Ag is For All" event offers a range of support services, including assistance with college applications, financial aid, and academic advising. By providing these resources, the college aims to remove barriers and create a more inclusive environment for all students.
