Webinar to Feature Solutions to Promoting Nutrition, Activity

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky will host a free webinar on Nov. 13 to share a creative solution developed by the community of Whitesburg to promote good nutrition and physical activity, while also supporting their local agriculture community.

The webinar is part of the Foundation's Health for a Change capacity-building training series, created to support nonprofit leaders across the Commonwealth to advance pressing health issues. Programs are free, but registration is required.

"Homegrown Community Solutions to Increase Fruit and Vegetables Consumption and Physical Activity in Appalachia" will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern. Register at www.healthy-ky.org/events/health-for-a-change#Past%20events.

The webinar presenters are:

- Callie Horn Blair, Community Program Manager for the University of Kentucky -- Tanglewood to Table Farmers' Market Voucher and Walking research program.

- Dawn Brewer, PhD, RD, LD, is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at the University of Kentucky, and Core Leader of the University of Kentucky Superfund Research Center's Community Engagement Core.

- Valerie Horn, MA, developed and piloted the initial concept of the UK-Tanglewood to Table Farmers' Market voucher and walking program in Whitesburg, Kentucky. She currently holds several leadership positions in the City of Whitesburg/Letcher County Kentucky including co-chair of the City of Whitesburg/Letcher County Farmers' Market; Chair of the Community Agricultural Nutritional Enterprises, Inc. Kitchen Board; Director of the Cowan Community Action Group; and as a partner with Appalachian Groundswell, LLC.

- Annie Koempel, MA, RD, LD, is a Registered Dietitian and the program manager for the University of Kentucky's Superfund Research Center Community Engagement Core.
