EPA Recognizes Farmers on National Agriculture Day

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) commemorates National Agriculture Day by recognizing the dedication of American farmers and ranchers in ensuring a sustainable food supply and protecting the environment.

Their role in managing land and water resources makes them key partners in preserving the nation’s natural assets.

“Agriculture is the foundation of the American economy and embodies the core of our American values. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are affirming our commitment to commonsense policies, to clear and consistent rules for all states, farmers, and small businesses. EPA is proud to work alongside our nation’s great farmers to usher in the Golden Age of American Success,” said Administrator Zeldin.

As of 2022, agriculture covers over 45% of U.S. land, reinforcing its crucial role in food security and economic stability. The EPA remains committed to supporting farmers by reducing regulatory burdens and fostering collaboration with the agricultural sector.

Strengthening Agricultural Policies

EPA has initiated efforts to improve agricultural policies, including -

  • Redefining Waters of the United States (WOTUS): A revision is underway to simplify water regulations, reducing costs and permitting barriers for farmers.
  • Deregulation Efforts: EPA recently announced 31 deregulatory actions to streamline processes, benefiting farmers and agribusinesses.
  • Agricultural Partnerships: EPA is working with state and federal agencies to ensure policies support economic growth while preserving environmental quality.

EPA’s Five-Pillar Plan

The EPA’s "Powering the Great American Comeback Initiative" outlines five key priorities:

  • Clean Air, Land, and Water: Farmers are essential in maintaining environmental health.
  • Energy Independence: Strengthening clean energy production benefits agriculture and the economy.
  • Permitting Reform: Faster approval processes reduce delays in agricultural operations.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Agriculture: AI advancements enhance productivity and environmental protection.
  • Revitalizing Auto Jobs: Strengthening ties between agriculture and the auto industry boosts rural economies.

EPA continues to support American agriculture, ensuring policies promote sustainability, economic growth, and innovation.
