Brooke Gentile Joins OFRF’s Organic Stewardship Council

Brooke Gentile Joins OFRF’s Organic Stewardship Council

By Blake Jackson

The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) has established its inaugural Organic Stewardship Council (OSC), comprising seven members from diverse agricultural backgrounds.

This council aims to amplify farmer voices and guide OFRF's initiatives nationwide. The council consists of farmers from various regions and representatives from farmer associations, ensuring a broad spectrum of perspectives.

“By formalizing this advisory body, we are creating an enduring structure that empowers farmers to guide and shape our work at every level," said OFRF Executive Director Brise Tencer. "We are thrilled to bring together this council of experienced voices who understand the challenges and opportunities in organic farming."

Following a rigorous nomination and review process, and approval by OFRF's Board of Directors, the new OSC members were selected. Among them is Brooke Gentile, Executive Director of the Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK). Gentile, with extensive experience in sustainable agriculture projects, is passionate about building a robust regional food system.

The OSC will play a crucial role in shaping OFRF’s programs by providing feedback on educational resources, research priorities, and policy advocacy. This ensures alignment with the needs of organic and transitioning farmers.

They will also elevate farmer perspectives, addressing on-the-ground challenges to inform OFRF’s strategic direction.

Furthermore, the council will evaluate the impact and effectiveness of OFRF’s programs, ensuring they remain relevant.

They will address emerging agricultural issues, including the National Organic Research Agenda (NORA), provide feedback on OFRF’s new Organic Research Hub, and contribute to Farm Bill priorities.

By establishing this council, OFRF reinforces its commitment to farmer-led initiatives, creating pathways to advance organic farming systems that prioritize climate resilience, soil health, and sustainability.
