Kentucky farm bureau raises over $350K for charity

By Blake Jackson

Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) Insurance's Clays for a Cause fundraising event continues to smash records, bringing in $350,214 this year to fight food and housing insecurity in Kentucky. Since its inception in 2019, the event has raised over $1.7 million for charitable causes.

This year's sold-out sporting clays competition, held at Jefferson Gun Club, attracted nearly 370 participants and garnered support from 44 sponsors. Uniquely, KFB covers all event expenses, ensuring every dollar raised goes directly to charities.

Proceeds from the 2023 event benefited two main causes: Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville's affordable housing program, and hunger relief efforts coordinated by Feeding Kentucky, Glean Kentucky, and Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry.

"Our initial goals were to raise awareness about food and housing insecurity and gather support for these critical issues," explained John Sparrow, KFB Insurance CEO. "We're overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters and their significant impact on Kentucky's communities."

The impact is undeniable. From nearly $116,000 raised in 2019, Clays for a Cause has grown exponentially each year. Beneficiary organizations highlight the event's importance.

"Habitat for Humanity is incredibly grateful for KFB's support in helping families achieve homeownership," said Rob Locke, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville. "KFB's partnership is a model for others."

Feeding Kentucky also expressed appreciation. "This partnership has been instrumental in supporting our Kentucky-grown produce program, helping us fight hunger across the state," said Melissa McDonald, Executive Director.

Similar sentiments came from Glean Kentucky and Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry. They credited KFB's support with increased capacity, wider reach, and more dependable services.

"Our program's donations have more than doubled since partnering with KFB," concluded Roger LaPointe, Executive Director of Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry. "KFB has raised awareness about our program, leading to more assistance for farmers and hungry families."

The Kentucky Farm Bureau's commitment to its community continues. The next Clays for a Cause event is scheduled for April 22nd, 2025. For more information about the event, visit https://www.kyfb.com/insurance/clays-for-a-cause/.
