Nominations and applications are open for the 2024 Kentucky Leopold Conservation Award® recognizing outstanding farmers and forestland owners. Presented by the Sand County Foundation and American Farmland Trust, the $10,000 award acknowledges individuals excelling in soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat management on operational land. Collaborating with the Kentucky Agricultural Council and Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts, the award aligns with Aldo Leopold's vision of a "land ethic" as outlined in his influential 1949 book, "A Sand County Almanac."
Landowners inspiring environmental stewardship will be honored in 27 states, including Kentucky. The application deadline is March 31, 2024, with a preference for electronic submissions to colemansteve51@gmail.com. Alternatively, applications can be postmarked by March 31 and mailed to the Leopold Conservation Award, c/o Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts, P.O. Box 4027, Frankfort, KY 40604-4027. This prestigious award seeks to celebrate and encourage a commitment to sustainable land management practices, fostering a harmonious relationship between people and the land they cultivate.
Nominations may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners may apply themselves. The application can be found at www.sandcountyfoundation.org/ApplyLCA.
