U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Dr. Tom Carew announced today over $1.7 million in federal funding to support nine clean energy projects across the state.
The funding, allocated through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), will help Kentucky farmers and rural small businesses reduce their energy costs and environmental impact.
“More and more Kentucky farmers and rural small businesses are learning about the benefits of energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy systems,” said Carew. “With help from our Rural Energy for America Program, these projects are much more economically feasible, and recipients see results almost immediately. Saving money while helping to tackle climate change is a win all the way around.”
Among the projects receiving funding are:
- Cox Companies LLC: A wood grinder will be replaced with a more energy-efficient model, saving over $3,000 annually in energy costs.
- River Bottom Tobacco Farms Inc.: An 8.8-kilowatt solar system will be installed, generating enough electricity to power a home.
- Morehead Automotive Group LLC: A combined 181.20-kilowatt solar system will be installed, powering approximately 19 homes.
- West KY Rural Telephone Coop Corp: A 290.16-kilowatt solar system with battery storage will be installed, saving over $50,000 annually in energy costs.
Other recipients include Tim Short Maysville LLC, Price Hill Laundry Services Inc., Woodies Restoration Inc., R.E. Purnell Construction Inc., and Blue Diamond Stud Farm USA LLC.
Since the administration began, USDA Rural Development has invested over $3.6 billion in Kentucky to support infrastructure improvements, business development, housing, community facilities, and high-speed internet access.
