Michael Dykes Discusses U.S. Dairy's Global Impact

By Blake Jackson

The Gluck Auditorium at the University of Kentucky will host a compelling discussion on U.S. dairy and its impact on people, featuring Michael Dykes, D.V.M., President and CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA).

The event, scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025, from 1 to 2 PM, will highlight key aspects of the dairy industry, including health, innovation, sustainability, workforce diversity, and the U.S.’s role in global dairy exports.

Since taking the helm at IDFA in January 2017, Dykes has been a vocal advocate for advancing dairy’s role in public health, economic growth, and international trade.

Dykes extensive career includes serving as Vice President of Government Affairs at Monsanto, where he led the company’s Washington, D.C. office and worked on agricultural biotechnology policy.

Dykes expertise extends to government relations in Mexico and Canada, as well as collaborations with U.S. farm organizations and trade associations.

Dykes is also a member of the Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee (APAC), where he provides insight on trade policies affecting U.S. agriculture. Additionally, he holds memberships with the American Veterinary Medical Association and the National Academy of Practitioners.

A Kentucky native, Dykes grew up on a dairy and tobacco farm. Dykes holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University and both a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky.
