OCTC Partnering to Offer Electrical Apprenticeships

Owensboro Community & Technical College's (OCTC) Workforce Solutions is partnering with local electrical businesses to offer a unique apprenticeship program in Electrical Technology. Interested students should attend an open house event March 23 at 5:30 p.m. in OCTC's Advanced Technology Center at 4800 New Hartford Road.

All prospective student participants, interested community members, and electrical companies are invited to attend. Local electrical companies participating in the apprenticeship program will be on hand at the recruitment event to discuss electrical career opportunities and the benefits of program participation, which include earning a great career and a college degree with little or no college debt!

In addition, OCTC staff will be available to assist and answer questions related to program applications, college enrollment requirements, and federal financial aid opportunities. The apprenticeship partnership allows participating students to receive on-the-job training while earning an associate degree.

Upon completing the four-year electrical apprenticeship program, students earn an associate degree in Applied Science in Electrical Technology - Construction Track and sit for the electrical journeyman's license exam. Prospective employer partners include Norman King Electric, Westerfield Electric and Lark Electric, LLC.

Interested applicants must be high school graduates (or equivalency) willing to work full-time with their sponsoring company while attending class twice a week in the evening. For further information about the event or to join as an employer partner, please contact the Director of Workforce Partnerships Katie Vincent via email at katie.vincent@kctcs.edu or call 270-686-4423.
