UK crop scouting competition for high schoolers

By Blake Jackson

Calling all future agricultural leaders! The University of Kentucky is hosting its exciting 2024 Crop Scouting Competition, a unique opportunity for high school students passionate about agriculture. This half-day event, held on July 25th at the UK Research and Education Center, puts students' knowledge to the test through real-world crop production challenges.

Teams of four to six students will have the chance to showcase their expertise in various areas, including crop agronomy, pest identification, and key decision-making skills essential for successful crop production. This isn't just a competition; it's an immersive learning experience that allows students to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical application.

The competition offers exciting incentives for top performers. Teams will compete for cash prizes of up to $500, with the winning team from each state earning a coveted spot in the regional competition to vie against champions from other states.

Spaces are limited, so act fast! Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Adult team leaders are encouraged to register early to secure their team's spot in this rewarding competition. Don't miss this chance to develop valuable agricultural skills and knowledge – register your team today!

To register, visit https://bit.ly/43ggERe. Registration is open until April 5.
