The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is proud to announce the appointment of John (Scott) Radcliffe as the new chair of the Department of Animal and Food Sciences, effective July 1. Radcliffe's distinguished background and expertise in teaching, research, and extension make him an ideal fit for this prominent position within the college.
Radcliffe comes to the University of Kentucky from Purdue University, where he served as a professor and assistant head of the Department of Animal Sciences. His focus on assessing the environmental impact and gastrointestinal health of swine has garnered recognition in the field. Additionally, Radcliffe has excelled in employing innovative teaching methods, combining traditional and non-traditional approaches to enhance student learning.
With a profound passion for advancing animal sciences, Radcliffe aims to leverage his expertise to propel the department to new heights. He acknowledges both the challenges and vast opportunities within the discipline and envisions his role as a catalyst for the department's full potential.
As chair, Radcliffe will assume a wide range of responsibilities, including academic leadership, cultivating collaborative relationships with commodity groups and stakeholders, and overseeing the department's fiscal management.
Radcliffe's academic accomplishments include earning three degrees from Virginia Tech, including a doctorate in nonruminant nutrition. He has actively contributed to the scholarly community by serving as a section editor for the Journal of Animal Science and Translational Animal Science. Moreover, he has held prestigious positions such as the president of the Midwest section of the American Society of Animal Sciences.
