New AI Tool Targets Soybean Pests Effectively

New AI Tool Targets Soybean Pests Effectively

By Jamie Martin

Agmatix, a leader in AI agronomic solutions, has teamed up with chemical and agricultural giant BASF to introduce a new digital approach for detecting and forecasting soybean cyst nematode (SCN) threats.

This initiative leverages BASF’s AgroStart platform to provide scalable insights to soybean growers facing losses from SCN, a major but often hidden pest.

The tool, powered by Agmatix's Axiom technology, processes vast agronomic data into actionable insights. "The most critical element in any AI model is the quality of the data driving it," stated Dr. Shai Sela, Chief Scientist at Agmatix.

This technology promises unprecedented accuracy in predicting SCN infestations, which are traditionally challenging to detect early.

BASF's expertise in seed and crop protection complements Agmatix’s AI capabilities, offering a user-friendly digital model that integrates seamlessly with existing farm management practices.

“Collaborating with companies like Agmatix allows us to leverage advanced digital technologies,” said Mika Eberl, Head of AgroStart and Digital Officer at BASF Agricultural Solutions.

SCN is a leading cause of soybean yield loss, costing U.S. growers approximately $1.5 billion annually. Traditional detection methods are labor-intensive; this digital tool aims to improve awareness and enhance traditional methods, providing growers with timely, effective pest management strategies.

This collaboration not only enhances existing solutions but also sets the stage for future innovations in digital agriculture, marking a significant advancement in the integration of technology in crop protection and farm management strategies.
