NextEra Energy and Nucor Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for a new solar energy center in Kentucky. This collaborative project signifies a commitment to both clean energy solutions and community development.
The completed facility will provide clean electricity to the power grid, bolstering Kentucky's renewable energy portfolio. Additionally, the project is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the local community. Lina Jensen, NextEra Executive Director of Development, highlighted these advantages.
"This project presents a win-win scenario," stated Jensen. "Not only will it contribute clean energy to the grid, but it will also create approximately 250 construction jobs and generate tax revenue for the county. We strategically selected this location due to its existing transmission capacity and the enthusiastic participation of local landowners."
Nucor will play a dual role in the project, purchasing the generated solar power to support their sustainability goals and supplying the steel needed for construction. With an estimated 18-month construction timeframe, the center is expected to be operational and generating clean energy for the grid by the end of 2025.
